We do not use your data for marketing, profiling or analytics, and we do not sell it. No automated decisions are made about you.
Do you have to provide the data?
No law requires you to give us your data. But some of it is needed for us to hold up our end of the contract, and without it we cannot provide the corresponding part of the service:
- Email address — required to create an account. Without an account the service cannot be used.
- Position — required for a device to appear on the map. If the device sends no position there is nothing to show, to you or to your group.
- IMEI for trackers — required to link a tracker to your account. No identifier is needed for your phone: the position belongs to the account, and we store nothing that would let us recognise the phone again.
- Name and address — required only when you buy hardware to be shipped. If you buy nothing physical, we do not process them.
When you make a purchase, certain data is also required under the Swedish Accounting Act. That obligation cannot be contracted away.
Position and sharing — how it works
This is the core of the service, so we describe it in detail.
Your account owns devices: phones running the app, and trackers. A registered device transmits its position to us. We store the most recent position and a trail of recent movement.
The position is shown to you. It is shown to others only if you have chosen to share the device with a group — this never happens automatically, and you can stop sharing at any time. The app shows which groups each device is shared with.
We do not know what a device is attached to. If one of your devices follows another person, you are responsible for ensuring they know; see the terms of use. If you are affected by someone else's device, you can always contact us directly at support@freehunt.app, without going through the device owner.
Position data can reveal more than where someone is right now. A trail over time can show where a person lives, works or regularly moves. We therefore handle it with particular care, limit how long it is kept, and do not disclose it outside the groups you have chosen.
Who receives the data
- Members of the groups you have shared a device with — they see the device's position
- Google, which provides sign-in and hosting for our systems
- Stripe, which handles payments. We never receive your card details
- The carrier, when hardware is delivered
- Authorities where required by law
These parties process the data on our behalf under contract, except where they have their own obligations under law.
Where the data is held
Position data and trails never leave the EU. They are processed in Google Cloud's data centre in Stockholm.
Sign-in and payment data is processed by Google and Stripe respectively, which are US companies. The transfer relies on the European Commission's adequacy decision for the United States (Data Privacy Framework) together with standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
| Data | Retention |
|---|---|
| Current position | Overwritten with each new position report |
| Trail | At most 500 points per device. Older points are overwritten automatically |
| Account and devices | For as long as the account is in use. If you have not used FreeHunt for 24 months, we contact you by email and delete the account 30 days later unless you sign in |
| Accounting records | Seven years, as required by the Swedish Accounting Act |
| Accepted terms | As long as the account exists |
| Deletion log | Same period as the accounting records |
Your rights
You have the right to:
- know what data we hold about you, and receive a copy,
- have inaccurate data corrected,
- have your data erased,
- receive your data in a common format in order to move it,
- object to or restrict certain processing.
Much of this you can do yourself in the app: change your name, stop sharing a device, or close your account. When you close your account, your personal data is erased or anonymised so that it can no longer be linked to you. The exception is accounting records, which the law requires us to keep for seven years — the right to erasure yields to that obligation.
To exercise a right, write to support@freehunt.app. We respond within one month.
If you are not satisfied
Please contact us first. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY), imy.se, the supervisory authority for data protection in Sweden.
Changes
We may update this policy. For material changes the app shows you the new version at your next sign-in and asks you to confirm that you have seen it. The date at the top shows when the policy was last changed.
